Graduate scheme

Get the training, support and opportunities to work with leaders in politics, business and the media through Newington’s graduate scheme. Over a structured, year-long programme, we will equip you with the skills you need to become a successful communications consultant.

We have two graduate scheme streams – National and EU, and Local and Regional. Although every graduate will have the opportunity to get to know what we do across Newington, specialising in a key area of communications consultancy will mean that you can do the work that excites you most.

Whichever stream you choose, like all of our professional consultants, you must be passionate about politics and communications, take pride in your work, be approachable and fun, have a ‘can do’ attitude and an analytical mind.

Our graduate scheme for 2017 is now open and will close on Friday 31 March 2017. For more information, including how to apply, click here.

Both streams will require you to:

  • Develop a detailed understanding of your clients and their operating environments
  • Learn to assess the relevance and motivations of different stakeholders
  • Develop your communication skills – with an eye to content and tone
  • Help to deliver strategic engagement programmes, which may include the organisation of high-profile events
  • Undertake political and issue-led research
  • With guidance, provide counsel, write position papers and policy documents
  • Start to identify and pursue new business opportunities

National and EU

The National and EU stream gives graduates the opportunity to work on some of the most exciting and pressing issues on the political and media agenda. You will learn how to develop and deliver strategies and campaigns that make a real impact in politics, the media and business, in Westminster, Brussels and beyond.

Local and Regional

Alongside becoming an expert in public and corporate affairs at a local level, graduates on this stream will also work on strategies to help secure planning consent for large scale infrastructure projects. You will be part of a team helping to deliver community engagement programmes on behalf of clients, including public exhibitions, media management and consultation.
