Prior to the implementation of the Government’s devolution deals, Barratt Homes wanted to build strategic relationships with local authorities across the UK in order to better understand local authorities’ aspirations for development.
Following legislation condensing the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), councils across the UK were required to develop new local plans in order to meet local housing need. The subsequent announcement on devolution raised the prospect of additional regional legislation which would determine where new homes would be built.
Newington initially assessed over thirty local authorities which were in the process of adopting new local plans, identifying the key stakeholders who would heavily influence where development would take place. Through a targeted engagement strategy, Barratt was able to position themselves as a strong partner and prospective developer for the future.
Barratt was able to use our intelligence-led approach to build strategic relationships with high-level stakeholders, setting the groundwork for future discussions. In addition, face to face meetings also helped inform discussions with prospective regional stakeholders, to help generate political buy-in for future developments by Barratt.
