Championing the takeaway industry

Context

Just Eat is a leading global marketplace for online food delivery – working with more than 29,000 restaurants across the UK. Newington was tasked with establishing a trade body on its behalf to represent the takeaway industry and to campaign on the issues the sector faces – specifically skills and food.

Strategy

Our strategy saw us build a new membership organisation, known as the British Takeaway Campaign, from scratch and create an evidence based report to develop detailed policy positions and wider collateral which were used as hooks to engage with politicians and the media.

Change

As a result of our efforts, the British Takeaway Campaign has 15 trade association and cuisine member organisations spanning the breadth of the industry, and the report quantifying the economic value of the industry has led to a growing profile within the sector and among government and parliamentarians. The BTC is now working towards shaping the new Catering and Hospitability T-level and with the Department of Health on its public health proposals.
