Seats currently held by the Conservatives in the South West are particularly at risk from the Liberal Democrats. Alex Chalk saw his majority reduced by 50% in 2017, after taking the seat during the Liberal Democrat collapse of 2015. Chalk’s previous longstanding support for a soft Brexit might carry him through, but equally, his support for Mr Johnson’s Brexit deal might well cost him his seat to the Liberal Democrats if they can stop their support continuing to slip in the polls.

Cheltenham will undoubtedly see a fierce fight and will be a good test of how effective the Liberal Democrat strategy of targeting Remain-supporting seats is.
