Finchley and Golders Green

The Liberal Democrats are pinning much of their strategy for this election on a strong showing in Remain-supporting London, with high-profile candidates including former Labour Shadow Business Secretary Chuka Umunna (Cities of London and Westminster) and former Conservative Minister Sam Gyimah (Kensington) standing in London seats.

Former Labour MP Luciana Berger is standing for the Liberal Democrats, and it will be a good test of how well the Conservatives do in the capital and whether the Lib Dem strategy of targeting key remain seats is an effective one. Recent polling from Delta Poll has the Lib Dems leapfrogging Labour to second place.

In 2017, the loss of six London seats helped cost the Tories their majority, and they will be conscious that losing any more seats in London will increase the number they need to gain elswhere in order to obtain the majority Johnson is banking on.
