Nicholas entered government and the private sector after 20 years as a Lobby Correspondent in Westminster, most of which with the Daily Telegraph. He has worked in Brussels and Washington, reported from over 30 countries and written editorials for both the Telegraph and Sun.
 
In Whitehall he was a Special Adviser to the Secretary of State for Scotland and Presentational Consultant on Europe at the DTI. In the private sector, he has been Government Adviser to QinetiQ plc and Unisys, and a Consultant to the Association of Train Operating Companies, London & Continental Railways and Virgin Trains.
