Octopus Investments are concerned that the challenges almost all entrepreneurs face in starting up, and scaling up, a business were often overlooked. We are helping them to raise awareness of these challenges, and potential solutions, among policymakers.
Based on its experience of investing in and working with a broad range of small businesses around the country, Octopus was acutely aware that entrepreneurs often face the same challenges. Its team asked us to help raise awareness of these challenges, and the potential solutions.
We coordinated a series of regional roundtable events focused on capturing the experiences of local business leaders. This work led us to being involved with project managing Octopus Group’s flagship recurring report, the High Growth Small Business Report (HGSB). It is this report that forms the foundations of Octopus’ engagement with political stakeholders.
The launch of the HGSB report in 2018 was attended by a large number of Parliamentarians, including the International Trade Minister, and over 40 wider stakeholders, including representatives from the Scale-Up Institute, the British Business Bank, and the London Stock Exchange. The feedback political and business leaders is overwhelmingly positive, and the HGSB report is widely recognised in Parliament as a strong, independent piece of research providing policymakers with strong recommendations, and is often cited by MPs.
